Mileygate, the near nude photos of pop star Miley Cyrus, has drawn a non-convincing comment masquerading as an apology by photo Annie Leibovitz.
Instead of admitting she used poor judgement in photographing the young star semi-naked, Leibovitz instead says her work was "misinterpreted".In a statement, Leibovitz says "I'm sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted. Miley and I looked at fashion photographs together, and we discussed the picture in that context before we shot it".
"The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little make-up, and I think it is very beautiful."
The provocative shots have sent shockwaves through Disney, the company that makes the Hannah Montana that Miley stars in. Disney blames magazine Vanity Fair for doing it to boost circulation.
Annie Leibovitz might think that her work has been "misinterpreted'. More to the point, it appears Annie Leibovitz has misinterpreted the image of a wholesome 15-year-old.
