Miley Cyrus has thanked fans for their support after Mileygate last week.
The 15-year-old pop star was photographed by famed snapper Annie Leibovitz wearing nothing but a sheet. In a statement given to People magazine, Miley said "The pictures of me on the Internet were silly, inappropriate shots. I appreciate all the support of my fans and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect".
"I never intended for any of this to happen and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone," she said.
The photograph caused controversy across middle America when it was published. It sent Disney, the company that produces her show Hannah Montana into damage control. Disney was quick to distance itself from the publicity disaster attributing blame to Leibovitz.
The Disney statement says, "Miley's grandmother and her teacher were there when she shot it. Annie convinced them it was going to be artistic. Her parents are mortified. They know this is a learning moment for Miley."
Last week, Annie Leibovitz fell short of a heartfelt apology. Her statement simply said "I'm sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted ... The photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little make-up, and I think it is very beautiful'.
Ms. Leibovitz obviously fails to see the danger in photographing 15-year-old girls semi-naked.
