The Last Shadow Puppets album 'The Age of the Understatement' has debuted at number one in England. That's not really a surprise. The band is the side-project for Arctic Monkeys Alex Turner and The Rascals Miles Kane.
Turner and Kane threw the Puppets together quietly in August 2007. It was an interesting move considering that Kane had just formed his own band, The Rascals.Kane met Turner when his previous band Little Flames supported Arctic Monkeys in 2005. Kane guested on the second Monkeys' album 'Favourite Worst Nightmare', playing guitar on 'Fluorescent Adolescent'.
The Last Shadow Puppets started work on the album in France and in December, the 22-piece London Metropolitan Orchestra was added to the mix.
To date, The Last Shadow Puppets have only ever played 3 gigs. The first was in Brooklyn, New York on March 4. The second was the next night in New York.
The only other public performance was a 2 song set on April 5 in Camden, London for a benefit for MS sufferers.
The debut album from The Rascals will be called 'Rascalize'. It will be released in June.
Arctic Monkeys have recorded demos for the third album. There is no indication when the album will be released.
