Stereo MCs return

Thu, 10 Apr 2008 10:59:25 +1000

Stereo MCs are back. One of the most successful dance-floor acts to emerge from Great Britain, Stereo MC's formed in London in 1985, when front-man Rob B (born Rob Birch) and Nick Hallam formed the Gee Street label as a means of promoting their music. Following the launch of their debut album 33-45-78, the band went on to release their breakthrough album 'Connected' to high critical acclaim.

Fast-forward through a series of groundbreaking productions and remix work (with Mercury Music Prize nominations and 2 Brit Awards along the way) including the lauded follow ups to 'Connected', 'Deep Down & Dirty' and 'Paradise', to the here and now and the band are soon to release their eagerly anticipated sixth LP. In the meantime, just to whet your appetite, the band have put together 'Hotplate' an exclsuive non-album 3 track taster of things to come.

Stereo MCs don't mess about: 'Gringo' immediately establishes itself as a no-holds-barred, peak-time club weapon, with a hard, pure-of-purpose kick-drum taking centre stage, while kinetic drum edits patter in, out and around it with each successive build and drop ravishing the listener into submission. The accompanying video is equally impressive (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5o7NLLT4nDg).

At this point you might expect the pace to let up, but follow-up tracks 'The Runaway' and 'Soul Girl' are similarly relentlessly energetic cuts with blasts of magnificently controlled chaos for the party's more intense moments. With Hotplate, Stereo MCs furnish us with 3 vehement yet elegant tracks guaranteed to turn a dance-floor near you inside out. This is music to immerse yourself in, for sure; but above all it's music to really, really dance to.

The band is currently busy in the studio and will be announcing LIVE shows in the very near future. The new album will launch in late 2008 however, there will be regular previews on their MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/stereomcsofficial).
