Hard-Fi & Jay Sean confirm Rock Against Racism

Mon, 07 Apr 2008 08:13:45 +1000

Hard-Fi and Jay Sean have been confirmed to join the bill for Love Music Hate Racism's "Carnival '08" taking place in London's Victoria Park on Sunday 27th April.

LMHR Carnival '08 is timed to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the 1978 Rock Against Racism (RAR)/Anti Nazi League (ANL) carnival and march.

As with the original there will be an Anti Nazi League-organised march against racism and fascism on the day, assembling at 10am at Weavers Fields London E2.

The Carnival runs from 12noon til 6pm, and is completely FREE to get into with NO advance ticket required - however donations are very welcome - you can give to the Carnival at http://www.lovemusichateracism.com/donate

Other acts confirmed include: Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex - who opened the 1978 Carnival - will be performing one or two of the the punk legends' best-known songs in a one-off collaboration with one of the bands on the bill, Jerry Dammers - founder and songwriter of The Specials, Patrick Wolf, Roll Deep, Radio 1 DJ Nihal, Bashy, The Paddingtons, Natty and dubstep dons Skream and Benga. More big-name headliners will be announced later this week. The event will also be addressed by a host of speakers who will underline the anti-racism message - such as veteran campaigner Tony Benn; trade union leaders like Derek Simpson from Unite and Mark Serwotka from PCS; National Union of Students leader Gemma Tumelty; and members of the family of racist murder victim Anthony Walker.
