Legendary soul singer Al Green's new studio album 'Lay It Down' is no doubt going to be a spectacular hybrid of generations.
Green has turned to Roots member ?uestlove, and British keyboardist James Poyser to help him sound like Al in the 21st century. Also appearing on the album are Corrine Bailey-Rae, John Legend and The Roots.
Green had a number of hits in the 60s and 70s such as 'Let's Stay Together', 'Tired Of Being Alone' and 'You Oughta Be With Me', but through the 80s had a string of awful albums that are far from the timeless classics he had earlier recorded.
In recent years, with the resurgence of early soul music, Green (and many other artists) has returned to his roots, recording early R&B in modern studios with startling success.
The album is due to be released on Blue Note records May 27.
