Chicago rap sensation Lupe Fiasco gives a sneak peek on 'Dumb It Down'.
Following his debut album of 2006 'Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor', the savvy Chi-Town rapper is preparing his second album, titled 'Lupe Fiasco's The Cool'. 'Superstar' is the first official single, featuring Matthew Santos who appeared on his song 'American Terrorist'. It was released on iTunes on September 25.But Lupe has launched a Spartan black and white video for the much vaunted critique 'Dumb It Down'. It is at once a Dadaist lyrical journey, a shoulder-shrug about his propensity for complex rhymes and a snipe at the tired gangsta rap subject matter.
One uncredited hood rapper implores Lupe to dumb it down in the chorus, saying he's going over heads and he should write songs about champagne, cars and bitches to sell albums. In the next chorus a college boy yuppie warns Lupe that he's enlightening the black populace too much.
Over a deeply fuzzed synth line and rudimentary beats, it's the most scathing indictment of gangsta rap's mindlessness to emerge from the current debate. Plus it rocks.
'Lupe Fiasco's The Cool' is set for a December 18 release date.
