Andre Rieu has past the 1 million mark for music sales in Australia in the last 12 months.
Rieu is the biggest selling act for Universal Music in Australia for the last year and probably the biggest selling act for all labels over the last 12 months.Rieu has achieved 49 platinum awards in Australia in one year. That has never been achieved before by any artist.
This week, Andre Rieu has 15 titles in the Top 40 DVD chart and those title account for 48% of DVD sales of the Top 40 last week.
In hearing the news, Rieu said in a statement , "I awoke to a text message on my mobile phone from my friends at Universal Music in Australia announcing that sales of my recordings in their country had just crossed 1 million units. I have always felt a bond with Australia, something that was strengthened when I visited for the first time in September 2007. I was overwhelmed by the sincerity and enthusiasm of Australians, it is nourishing for any artist."
As a show of thanks, his next album will be a tribute to Australia. "My success in Australia has touched me deeply. I make music to touch the souls of people as it's a language we all can speak. I thank all my friends and audience in Australia for believing in me, and with my forthcoming album 'Waltzing Matilda' which I dedicate to Australia, and my forthcoming debut tour in November this year, I look forward to strengthening this bond. Rieu will also be filming his next DVD from his show in Melbourne.
Andre Rieu will visit Australia again next month to film some footage for the forthcoming DVD.
