Bruce Springsteen has vehemently denied a report in gossip rag that he and his wife Patti Scialfa have split.
The rumour stemmed from a gossip item originally printed in the Murdoch-owned tabloid, The New York Post. Springsteen wrote on his official website, "Due to the unfounded and ugly rumors that have appeared in the papers over the last few days, I felt they shouldn't pass without comment. Patti and I have been together for 18 years - the best 18 years of my life."He went on to state, "We have built a beautiful family we love and want to protect and our commitment to one another remains as strong as the day we were married."
The tabloid had reported that Springsteen had fallen for a September 11 widow, whom he had met during his involvement in a benefit concert. Despite the fact that the original report was printed in a newspaper known for its unerring commitment to sensationalism, it was picked up by numerous other news sources. The resultant widespread reportage likely played a role in Springsteen feeling the need to comment.
