BBC Radio One DJ Grooverider has been busted in Dubai with 2.16 grams of marijuana in his trousers pocket.
The DJ, who was a co-host of an influential drum 'n' bass program on Radio 1, claims he forgot the weed was there, but the United Arab Emirates has a minimum four years sentence for drug possesion.BBC announced that the 40-year-old DJ, whose real name is Raymond Bingham, "has paid a very high price for a serious mistake."
At least he can count himself lucky, fellow Brit Keith Brown who received the same sentence for 0.003g of cannabis found stuck to the bottom of his shoe, or an unnamed Swiss national who also received four years for having three poppy seeds stuck to his shirt that he claims must've been from a bread roll he ate at Heathrow Airport... seriously.
For those of you planning on travelling to the UAE, Fair Trials International - a charity dedicated to ensuring fair trials for people who face them - warns that you should ensure you're clear of ANY controlled substance, even if you're just stopping over.
