Grunge golden boy Evan Dando has spoken about living in semi-obscurity, and how the forthcoming Lemonheads CD may be his last rock record.
The 39-year-old, speaking to The Guardian, gave an insight to his days at the top of the rock heap. He claimed that having money made him creatively lazy, so he would spend it as quickly as possible.Whilst his days of hard-living are slowly moving further into the past, Dando still professes an appreciation for hallucinogens. "I don't like alcohol, but I still like to mess around with other stuff occasionally," he said. "I think it's important I take mushrooms and acid. They're certainly not addictive, so I can't rule that out. Every six months or so I'll take some mushrooms, because I can't let go of that completely. And I don't want to."
A regular visitor to Australia, Dando penned a number of new tunes with Australian musician Tom Morgan. The singer said he wanted to make one more rock album before he turned 40. "I like to do that kind of music [rock music], but I'm probably better at the other kind, the quiet Fred Neil-type of stuff," he said. "I want to do both. I've got time, I hope, to make lots of quiet records. So quiet you won't be able to hear them."
The Lemonheads new, eponymous album is scheduled for a September release.
