9828 Newville, Ave, Downey, California, where Karen and Richard Carpenter lived, will be demolished unless Carpenters fans have their way.
The house, now owned by the Parra family, has been listed for demolition.Manuel Parra bought the house in 1997 from Richard Carpenter. The house belonged to his parents and Karen and Richard lived there throughout their career.
It was featured on the cover of their 1973 album 'Here & Then' and was the place Karen collapsed in 1983 and soon after died.
Karen and Richard's parents lived in the house until their death. Harold died in 1988. Agnes died in 1996. Richard sold the property to the Parras one year after his mother died.
The trouble now for the Parras is that their house has become somewhat of a monument to Karen. It is the "Graceland" of Carpenters fans.
Mr. Parra and his wife say they were very accommodating to fans in the early days. They even invited them in to look around. But over the years it has gotten out of control.
It is now not unusual to find fans taking photos through the windows.
Downey is situated north of Anaheim, and about 15 miles south of downtown LA.
