The incomparable Eddie Floyd will head to Australia for just one show only in Melbourne, backed by Melbourne's kings of soul, The Bamboos.
Floyd was signed to the legendary Stax records as a songwriter in 1965, but went on to have many of his own hits including 'Knock On Wood', '634-5789' (which he originally wrote for Wilson Pickett) and 'Raise Your Hand'.Before his time at Stax, he was a member of Detroit soul group The Falcons (which later included Wilson Pickett). Their song 'Your So Fine' is often credited as being the very first "soul" song.
Floyd was a major inspiration for Dan Akroyd's character in the 1980 movie The Blues Brothers, and Akroyd last year compiled his favourite Floyd tracks for the newly reactivated Stax label.
You can see this true piece of history at the Prince of Wales in Melbourne on April 11 with DJs Mohair Slim (PBS), Pierre Baroni (PBS) and Manchild (PBS).
Tickets are $49.50 + b/f and available from the usual spots.
