Again in 2008, the John Butler Seed will be running to help promote young artists get their ideas up and running.
Young entrepreneurs will be given the chance to gain funding for their artistic ideas when they apply.The categories for 2008 are:
Indigenous Recording - One opportunity
Professional and Skills Development - Grants of up to $3000
Social Activism Through The Arts - Grants of up to $5000
Management Workshop Initiative - 25 Opportunities Available
The Jacqui McCoy (Geia) Trust - $8000 available
The Jacqui McCoy trust seeks to honour the memory of the tireless work of the late Jacqui McCoy (Geia), who devoted much of her life to assisting disadvantaged artists from all backgrounds, but particularly Indigenous Australian artists.
Jacqui was an integral committee member from the inception of The JB Seed Fund and was always enforcing the need for emerging artists to be nurtured. She was instrumental in developing a way of operating which would keep The JB Seed accessible to start-up artists and arts workers.
It is a fund that will be directed at the committee's discretion to applicants to the other categories.
The grants, founded by John Butler, are funded and run by Ant McKenny, Brett Oaten, Carlo Santone, Correne Wilkie, Jill Shelton, John Watson, John Woodruff, Kathy McCabe, Kylie Greenless, Mark Lackey, Maureen Ritchie, Maya Jupiter, Missy Higgins, Nicole Craig, P.J. Murton, Paul and Michelle Gilding, Paul Kelly, Paula "Jonesy" Jones, Phil Stevens, Richard Kingsmill, Russell Thomas, Sally Howland, Sebastian Chase, Simon Moor, Stuart Watters, Suffa MC, MC Pressure and DJ Debris from Hilltop Hoods, Tony Buchen, Jullia Kosky, The Waifs and Tony Mott.
