Music fans purchasing digital downloads are proving to be a completely different crowd to the traditional CD buyer. The No. 2 downloaded album doesn't even appear in the Top 50.
That position goes to the unlikely 'Alvin & The Chipmunks' soundtrack.It is at No. 73 on the overall chart.
When looking at digital downloads of albums, three titles including Alvin aren't even in the overall Top 20.
Daft Punk is suddenly a top 3 act with the 'Alive 2007' album. It is at No. 21 overall.
Midnight Juggernaut's are a top 10 act digitally. 'Dystopia' is the No. 7 digital album. Take a snorkel when you go looking for it on the general chart. It is way down the south end at No. 98.
Certain acts are definitely CD acts. Delta Goodrem's 'Delta' is the No. 6 album but the No. 19 download.
Alicia Keys No. 3 album 'As I Am' drops out of the Top 20 as a digital release. It is at No. 22.
'Ultimate Santana' for Santana is overall No. 8, digital No. 31.
Guy Sebastian's 'The Memphis Album' is No. 37 digital and No. 18 overall.
The Eagles' 'Long Road Out Of Eden' is No. 11 overall but No. 50 as a digital release.
The biggest variation is Garth Brooks. 'The Ultimate Collection' is the No. 11 album this week in Australia but sold zero downloads.
It is no surprise Radiohead has the No. 1 digital album. The band promoted the release of 'In Rainbows' online for three months before it was released as a CD. 591 of the 5235 units it sold last week in Australia were digital downloads.
Sneaky Sound System, John Butler Trio, Fall Out Boy, Angus & Julia Stone, Lupe Fiasco, Kings Of Leon, Powderfinger, Fiest, Snow Patrol, Jose Gonzalez, The Cat Empire, The Panics and Gotye are charting higher as digital acts than CD sellers.
However, it is still early days for the digital download to have any real impact on revenues back to labels for the album. Digital released for the Top 10 combined amounted to only 1885 compared to 38,875 CDs sold.
Digital sales for To 100 albums totalled 6707 units compared to 141,041 CDs sold.
