REM is expected to be announced soon as one of the showcase bands for SxSW 2008.
SxSW in Austin, Texas is the world's biggest music conference, attracting around 1100 acts from around the world to showcase every year. It is held every year in March.For REM, the showcase is perfect timing for the release of their 14th album 'Accelerate' which is due on April 1st.
The new album is a return to the guitar-driven REM last heard a decade ago with the 'Monster' album.
Last year, SxSW featured performances from Pete Townshend, Booker T & The MGs, Iggy and The Stooges and Public Enemy.
Daryl Hall has already been announced as a speaker and performer for SxSW this year.
Daniel Lanois, Paul Kelly and The Vines are expected to also be announced soon.
