Robert Plant may have a Grammy, in fact he may have every music award under the sun, but this week was a first for the Led Zeppelin singer ... he won Beard of the Year.
The Beard of the Year award has been handed out annually since 2000 by the Beard Liberation Front. The society was founded in 1995 by socialist historian Keith Flett. The BLF created the term 'beardism'. The word has now made its way into the Oxford Dictionary.
The first recipient of the award was Frank Dobson. The Labour politician was granted the inaugural award after being asked by his party to shave off his beard when he was running for election as the Mayor of London. He told them to "get stuffed".
Plant was given the award for wearing a beard at the recent Led Zeppelin reunion concert.
Founder Flett told the BBC, "the winners this year have stylish beards and are promoting a new 21st Century image of the hirsute."
