Justin Hawkins, singer for UK glam rock posers The Darkness, has checked into rehab.
Dan, Eddie and Richie from the band have announced on their website that Hawkins, obviously taking his '70s glam rock revivalism a little too far, has checked into a rehab clinic. BBC reports that it was the Priory, a regular Pete Doherty haunt. The band's statement said that a doctor recommended that Hawkins "cancel all professional commitments or work-related activities". This means that the band also had to cancel their appearance at Denmark's Skanderborg Festival, which took place from August 10 to 13. They claimed that the band has had precious little time off in three years and Hawkins' "health must come first."
After the relatively disappointing sales of their sophomore album 'One Way Ticket To Hell... And Back' (only reaching 11 on the UK charts and so far selling a fifth of the amount that their debut did), rumours abounded that this latest mishap would lead to Atlantic dropping the band. But the three members stridently denied that this was the case, saying the label has optioned their third album, slated for early 2007.
