The Police were the highest grossing touring act of 2007, but it was a bad year for tours.
According to touring bible Pollstar, the Top 20 tours of 2007 generated $996 million. That was down 15.6% on 2006.The year was still up on 2004, when Prince and Madonna topped the highest grossing list on a Top 20 valued at $951.1 million.
While it was bad news for the touring industry in general, it was big news for The Police who reformed to mark the 30th anniversary of their debut album.
Ticket sales for the band in the USA were $131.9 million making them the 4th highest grossing act of all-time.
The biggest ever was The Rolling Stones on $162m from 2005, U2 on $139m from 2005 and The Stones again in 2006 on $138.5m.
