Actress Rachel Griffiths will join residents of the St Kilda community in Melbourne this Friday (December 28th) to continue the campaign to protest turning the heritage sector along the Esplanade and around the historic theatre section into an eyesore property development.
The controversial St Kilda Triangle development has been the centre of controversy from some years now after local council first revealed plans to tear down the rock and roll venue The Palace (next door to the Palais) and replace it with a shopping complex and apartment buildings.Since then, The Palace mysteriously and conveniently burnt to the ground and no-one in council or state government has even attempted to uncover the cause of the blaze.
Residents argue the planned restoration of the historic Palais Theatre should not be tied and sacrificed in with the St Kilda Triangle development.
Rachel Griffiths is close to the region. She lives in the area and was married at the Palais Theatre. Griffiths was recently nominated for a Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actress for 'Brothers and Sisters'.
Residents and interested parties are invited to attend the launch of the Palais Revival campaign at 11am tomorrow at the Palais.
