The Eagles 'Long Road Out Of Eden' sold an incredible 35,488 physical units this week, a little more than what a gold record is worth.
In Australia, Gold is accredited at 35,000 units sold into stores. Consequently, many a Gold and Platinum certification that you see on the ARIA Chart hasn't actually sold that many to the general public, just to the shops. The Eagles however are really selling out of stores and into the hands of fans.The 35,488 units sold (plus an additional 73 downloads) have pushed Eagles sales of 149,612 units to date in Australia.
'Long Road Out Of Eden' has clocked up 2.2 million sales in the USA and 2.1 million for the rest of the world, making it one of the biggest selling albums of 2007. That's not bad for a band that hadn't had a new record in 28 years.
Per capita, Australia has taken to 'Long Road Out of Nowhere' more than even the USA. This week's 35,000+ sales is the equivalent of selling 500,000 in the USA.
On the DVD chart, 'Farewell 1 Tour Live From Melbourne' is at No. 21 after 116 weeks. It sold 2,551 units last week.
So now the big question is when will the band be back in Australia. I hear Australia might have to wait until early 2009 for another Eagles tour. Maybe just with the Aussie sales outstripping other territories, we might see the band a bit sooner.
