As the Christmas countdown begins, Australia's Top 10 album chart features four covers albums. Guy Sebastian, Tina Arena, Human Nature and David Campbell are all getting under cover with the classics.
Sebastian's 'The Memphis Album', Tina Arena's 'Songs of Love and Loss', Human Nature's 'Get Ready' and David Campbell's 'The Swing Sessions 2', all Australian releases, make up 40% of this weeks Top 10 albums.Sebastian is focused on the great soul songs from the Stax stable like 'Soul Man', '(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay' and 'Hold On I'm Coming', with a stellar band featuring Steve Cropper and Donald 'Duck' Dunn.
Human Nature base their album on similar roots, but from Motown. Their album features the songs 'Get Ready', 'Tears of a Clown' and 'River Deep Mountain High' with Motown greats Smokey Robinson, Mary Wilson and The Temptations guesting.
Tina Arena covers various musical eras with her 'Songs of Love and Loss' album. The album includes covers of Dusty Springfield's 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself' from the 60s, Kate Bush's 'The Man With The Child In His Eyes' from the 70s, Diana Ross' 'Love Hangover' from the 80s and REM's 'Everybody Hurts' from the 90s.
David Campbell has throw everything from Frank Sinatra through to David Lee Roth into his 'Swing Sessions 2' album. The album features 'That's Life' and 'Just A Gigalo/I Ain't Got Nobody'.
Sales for the four albums combined since release have topped 175,000 units. This week, the albums accounted for 61,000 plus sales. Totals to date in physical CD sales are Sebastian's 'The Memphis Album' (55,926), Campbell's 'The Swing Sessions' (45,473), Human Nature's 'Get Ready' (44,705) and Tina Arena's 'Songs of Love and Loss' (28,473).
