Legendary rock ghoul Alice Cooper has met with his alter-ego, nice as pie American Idol winner Jordin Sparks, on stage at Grand Canyon University.
Cooper and Sparks, both Phoenix locals, got together to dedicate The Rock Teen Music Center at the university. The $7 million center is a multi-use hall with recording studio and sound rooms.
The concept is supported by Cooper as a way to keep teens away from crime and drugs by dedicating their spare time to creating music.
"With Grand Canyon University's support, we are fulfilling a vision we've had for several years - to provide teens and children with a central place to learn, have fun, and explore their creativity in a supportive environment," says Alice Cooper, Solid Rock's chairman. "I hope that in years to come, The Rock will be the first of many such teen centers in Arizona and around the country."
Cooper entered the venue riding a backhoe while local band The Silent Cry performed.
The Rock will offer after-school programs and special events for the youth of the region. It also has sporting facilities including an indoor basketball court and an rock climbing wall.
Solid Rock is a Christian non-profit organization founded by Alice Cooper in 1995.
