Australian guitar legend Lobby Loyde is now a member of the ARIA Hall of Fame.
An ailing Loyde who is battling cancer did not let his disease keep him away from the evening and in fact, the 65 year old guitarist took to the stage for a blistering performance of 'Back To You' with Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs.Loyde, a one-time member of The Aztecs, was inducted by Thorpe.
Sometimes called the Godfather of Australian Rock, Loyde was a 'musicians musician'. He was once cited as an influence by Kurt Cobain.
After leaving the Aztecs, Loyde formed The Coloured Balls and came closest to chart success with the raging 'Liberate Rock' from 1972.
Gil Matthews Aztec Records is about to re-issue the 1973 Coloured Balls album 'Ball Power'. The original record reached No. 13 nationally in 1973 and went top 10 on Loyde's hometown of Melbourne.
The new version features seven bonus tracks including a 16 minute version of 'G.O.D.'.
Loyde is battling lung cancer. A benefit concert will be held for him on August 29 at The Palace in St Kilda.
