Canadian punk band Fucked Up are planning on releasing a holiday single entitled 'David Christmas' from their forthcoming LP 'The Chemistry Of Modern Life'.
That's all well and good, but the b-side is the exciting part. It's a "very special" Christmas / Hanukkah / Kwanzaa song which sees the band collaborating with James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), Cole (Black Lips), Davey Havok (AFI), Kevin Peterson (What's Your Rupture?), Faris Rotter (The Horrors), Mike Fellows (Rites Of Spring), Matt Sweeney (Chavez/ Zwan), Dave One (Chromeo), Jacob Thiele (The Faint), Morag and Ursula, Jay Reatard, Dan Romano (Attack In Black), Trevor Keith (Face To Face), Jason Green (Panthers/ Orchid), Jerry A. (Poison Idea), Shenae Grimes (Degrassi: The Next Generation), Scott Vogel (Terror) and Nelly Furtado. The band said on their blog, "This is not a joke. All of these people (willingly) participated in the recording of this song. This probably the most bizarre collaboration that they have/ will ever do."
For those of you in Toronto, the band will be performing on Saturday December 15th at a special holiday event at Sonic Boom Records to benefit the Toronto Food Bank and George Herman House, an organization which helps house women with mental health issues.
Sonic Boom Records can be found at 512 Bloor St. West, Toronto and is "downstairs in the workshop". Get your photo taken with Santa at 3pm and the gig starts at 5pm. It costs a non-perishable food bank donation to get in.
There will be 1000 copies of the 7" pressed and those that aren't sold on the night will be made available via mail-order. Do me a favour, and if you're at the gig, buy me a copy and send it over here.
All proceeds from the sale of the record will go to George Herman House.
