Four people were shot dead and five injured at a Venezuelan club show for DJ Carl Cox.
Reports suggest that ecstasy traffickers were responsible for the gunfight at the performance in Caracas. The legendary DJ had just begun his set when sounds reported as akin to firecrackers were heard. Footage of the shootings were posted on YouTube but have since been removed.Cox released a statement following the incident, saying he is "deeply shocked and still stunned" about the events. "I find it such a sad moment in electronic music, as this was probably one of the best set up shows I had played in South America - a sign of real progress...yet utterly hijacked by this mindless act," he said.
He continued, "Again, my heart goes out to those that have died or been injured. This is NOT what the dance scene is about and is a million miles away from what I want to do, or promote."
