Legendary DJ Carl Cox tells Undercover how he has turned punk rock kids into dance aficionados.
Speaking to Undercover from the Face The Music industry conference in Melbourne, Carl Cox revealed how his mentoring at schools has influenced the taste of his students.
“You’ve got these kids who are skater punks, don’t care about nothin’ or nobody, asking ‘Who’s this dude coming and tell us about music?’” he chuckled about his students.
“The thing is, it’s all about what I enjoy and what I believe in. It’s the same as everyone else. If you’re into that style of music – rock music or thrash metal or whatever – you still have to have an element of what you like from it.”
“For me, it’s the same with anything. If you like dance music, fine, but there are so many elements to dance music. That’s what I try to purvey, whatever you’re into, I’m into, but from a different angle.”
Cox has spent time mentoring music students at schools while living at his Australian home in Frankston.
