Eagles may trump Britney Spears' for chart topping album, only if Walmart releases figures.
A couple of years of horrendous press has obviously made Britney Spears' music sound better, with reports that her first album in four years 'Blackout' is set to top the US charts when complete figures are released next week. But the first studio album for the Eagles in 28 years, 'Long Road Out Of Eden', may pip Britters at the post. Only if Walmart announce the figures. The album is only available at Walmart, who have previously refused to disclose the sales of their exclusive releases.
Currently Britney is topping Billboard's Building Chart which tracks SoundScan album sales throughout the first week. Eagles manager Irving Azoff told Billboard that "If the Eagles were SoundScanning this week, even though it's only available at one retailer, Britney wouldn't be number one."
Walmart has until the end of the tracking week to decide whether to disclose the figures, but a source quoted by Billboard said that 'Long Road Out Of Eden' posted the highest first-day total "by far" for the mega-retailer.
