The lights on Broadway were dimmed tonight in New York to acknowledge the passing of Broadway great, singer and actor Robert Goulet.
Goulet died this morning (Wednesday, October 31) at the age of 73.The star had been suffering from rapidly progressive pulmonary fibrosis, a condition that is most often fatal. There is also no effective treatment for the condition, although he was awaiting a lung transplant.
Goulet was admitted to Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles on October 14.
In a family statement, it said that "at the time of his death his wife of 25 years, Vera Goulet, who has been with him constantly since his hospitalization, was holding his hand until his last breath. Also present were his two sons Christopher and Michael along with his longtime friend and family physician Dr. David Kipper.??He is survived by his wife, his two sons, his daughter Nicolette, and his two grandchildren Jordan and Solange".
Goulet started his career by appearing on the talent quest Pick The Stars in 1952. He made the semifinals.
The big break came in 1959 when he was cast in the role of Lancelot in Camelot. The show took him to Broadway.
In 1988, he started to appear in hip-young movies such as Beetlejuice and Scrooged. In 1991, he acted in the comedy 'Naked Gun 2 ??.
But of course, that's all small winnings compared to the big ticket job. In 1993, Robert Goulet starred as himself in an episode of The Simpsons.
