Country music legend Porter Wagoner has lost his battle with lung cancer at age 80.
It was only announced last week that Wagoner had been diagnosed with the disease. The superstar was beginning to enjoy a resurgence in popularity, thanks to playing gigs with The White Stripes and signing to the uber-cool L.A. based label Mute.
His long time friend and singing companion Dolly Parton visited him in hospital shortly before he died, and described him as having his wits and joking around.
Wagoner's hits include 'Green Green Grass Of Home' and 'The Rubber Room'.
