Country legend Porter Wagoner has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is currently in hospital in Nashville.
Wagoner had just celebrated his 50th year as a member of the Grand Ole Opry, the long running Nashville based country show.Associated Press reports his long time friend Dolly Parton has visited him in hospital, and vowed to sing with him again. Parton was given her first break by Wagoner when they sung together in 1967.
Ironically, the youngins helped Wagoner out with a second break this year. He was signed to LA based Anti records - home of Tom Waits and Nick Cave - and supported the White Stripes in New York earlier this year.
The rhinestone legend's hits include 'The Green Green Grass of Home', 'The Rubber Room', 'Misery Loves Company' and more.
