Zany surf-pop legends The B-52's are preparing for their first album in 16 years.
The wacky party band from Athens, Georgia are reunited with original member Cindy Wilson and are planning the release of all-new material on 'Funplex', due out in February next year.Guitarist Keith Strickland told Rolling Stone "we're gonna keep [touring], we're gonna need some new songs for the show, we need to put a new album out there." That, and a bit of inspiration from a trip to Hawaii four years ago, was enough to get Strickland started on another addition to their catalogue of quirky hits.
New tracks have typically cheeky B-52s titles: 'Pump', 'Love In The Year 3000', 'Deviant Ingredient' and 'Juliet Of The Spirits'. They've been testing out tracks on live audiences are the verdict has been reportedly positive.
Then again, if the new material sounds the way Strickland describes it, as "loud, sexy rock & roll with the beat pumped up to hot pink," it's just more of the same for these cult heroes. 'Funplex' will be release on February 26 through Astralwerks.
