Five suspects have been arrested over the murder of South African reggae star Lucky Dube.
"I can confirm that five suspects were arrested this morning," Superintendent Eugene Opperman said from Johannesburg. "We confiscated two unlicensed guns, and four cars including the blue VW Polo that is believed to have been used on the night the crime was committed. The cars are believed to have been stolen."The award-winning Dube, 43, was murdered last Thursday night during an attempted carjacking, in full view of his two children.
South African president Thabo Mbeki described the reggae pioneer as "an outstanding South African", adding that his country must "make a commitment that we shall continue to act together as a people to confront this terrible scourge of crime, which has taken the lives of too many of our people and does so every day."
