In the 80's, he was the guitarist for what would become one of England's most seminal bands. Today, Johnny Marr is a professor.
Marr has been appointed a Professor of Music by Salford University.In the job, Marr will conduct workshops for music students and teach master classes.
"Salford University is offering some fantastic opportunities to students in music. It's an honour to be appointed a Professor and I'm excited at the prospect of being able to make a contribution," Marr said in a statement.
Marr received his appointment this week at Salford after speeches from University Vice Chancellor Professor Michael Harloe, Registrar Doctor Adrian Graves, Head of School Professor John Mundy.
The Smiths began what was to become their legendary status with the self-titled album in 1984. Four albums later, in 1987, after the release of 'Strangeways, Here We Come' it was all over.
Marr and singer Morrissey to this day have never reunited on stage, nor considering their relationship is it likely to happen in the short-term.
Marr has kept his profile up with a solo career, as well as side-projects such as The The, Electronic and Modest Mouse.
