Guy Sebastian has completed work at the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis for an album of Stax covers. The album is now being mixed in New York.
What Human Nature did to Motown, Sebastian is planning on doing with the classics of Stax including 'Soul Man', 'In The Midnight Hour', Knock On Wood', ' Dock of the Bay' and 'Hold On I'm Coming. The move is a bold one for the Australian Idol singer who has taken years to fill the britches awarded to him as the first Australian Idol winner.
Idol has had a record of road-kill ever since that first year but to Sebastian's credit (like runner-up Shannon Noll), he has worked hard on the live circuit to hone his talents.
With the new record being produced by the legendary Steve Cropper, Sebastian might just finally reach a level that starts to demand some respect.
The new album also features Donald 'Duck' Dunn, another backbone of the Stax sound and a member with Cropper of Booker T & The MGs and The Blues Brothers.
Sebastian will feature on 'Live at the Basement' on ABC TV across Australia tomorrow (Thursday October 4th) at 11.25pm.
