Sarah McLachlan has recorded the Lennon classic 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over) for her forthcoming holiday album Wintersong.
Just as John and Yoko had the Harlem Community Choir perform on the original, Sarah has used a choir from her hometown on Vancouver."As a kid," she says, "music saved my life; having that one thing that I knew I was good at made all the difference. It feels so good to be able to see their lives impacted. There's hardly any joy comparable."
Sarah founded The Sarah McLachlan Music Outreach program in 2003 to provide free music education for school students.
Other songs on the album include a cover of Joni Mitchell's 'River' but the Christmas classics 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas', 'Silent Night', and 'The First Noel/Mary Mary'.
Guests on the record include Diana Krall and Jim Creegan from Barenaked Ladies.
Wintersong will be released on October 8th.
