While System of a Down's Serj Tankian is working on his solo album and Darian Malakian working on the Scars on Broadway project, drummer John Dolmayan is taking his downtime in a completely different direction. He has created an Internet based store to sell comic books.
Dolmanyan this week announced his new business Torpedo Comics will be launched on November 1st.Torpedo Comics will carry around 15 million items of stock including comic books, toys, novels, paperbacks and action hero figurines.
The SOAD drummer is housing his warehouse in Las Vegas, where he is now based. The company is based in a 30,000 ft warehouse with 25 staff cataloguing and administrating the sales.
Dolmanyan has been a comic book collector since the age of 12.
One of his prize possessions is the drum-kit he used on the 2006 SOAD tour. It was made up of 22 illustrations drawn by some of his favourite comic book artists including Jim Lee, Simon Bisley, Kevin Eastman, Neal Adams and Bill Sienkiewicz.
In the SOAD hiatus, Dolmanyan will work with Malakian on the project Scars on Broadway. They will start work on the album today.
