Legendary producer Phil Spector will go free after his murder trial ended in a mistrial today (Wednesday September 26, 2007) in a Los Angeles court.
Spector was on trial for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson, who died from a gunshot to the face in his Los Angeles mansion 4 ?? years ago.67 year old Spector was charged with second-degree murder of the 40 year old actress who had met the producer just hours earlier in a nighclub.
Spector invited Clarkson back to his Alhambra mansion but by 5am, she was dead, the victim of a gun going off in her mouth.
Spector's defence claimed the actress committed suicide but his chauffeur, who was first to arrive at the scene of the killing, testified that Spector said "I think I killed somebody".
Spector is notoriously famous for his inappropriate use of guns. Legend has it that he fired a gun in the studio during the recording of John Lennon's 'Rock and Roll' album.
During the trial, 5 women testified that Spector had terrorised them with guns.
The jury of nine men and three women failed to reach a verdict.
Phil Spector is now a free man.
