Before his headlining appearance at the Sydney Festival, Brian Wilson is rumoured to duet with Paul McCartney.
Beach Boy kingpin and living legend Brian Wilson is currently celebrating the reopening of London's Royal Festival Hall with a week of performances. As part of their opening season, the Southbank Centre commissioned a new work from Wilson, a four-round narrative-spliced suite dubbed 'That Lucky Old Sun', consisting of Beach Boys hits and new material. At the first performance, Wilson wound up the show with a rendition of The Beatles classic 'She's Leaving Home', fuelling even more speculation that he'll be joined by fellow pop icon and sometime rival Paul McCartney at September 13 performance.
Wilson has confirmed that he'll bring 'That Lucky Old Sun' to 2008's Sydney Festival. His announcement follows last year's appearance by Lou Reed and 2005's Elvis Costello headliner. He is slated to open the festival with a massive free concert in Sydney's Domain on Saturday January 5 and will play select shows across the 21-day event, including a 'Pet Sounds' showcase alonside performances of the commissioned work.
