The Record Industry Association of America (RIAA) has turned its target towards P2P filesharing company LimeWire.
Following successful cases against Napster and Kazaa, LimeWire is the latest company that allows illegal sharing of music to be taken to court.A complaint was jointly filed by the major music labels, Universal, Sony BMG, EMI and Warner on Friday in the US Supreme Court.
The consortium of labels is seeking $150,000 in damages for every song shared through LimeWire, which means billions of dollars.
In a statement, RIAA says "despite numerous efforts to engage LimeWire, the site's corporate owners have shown insufficient interest in developing a legal business model".
Only last month, Sydney based Kazaa agreed to pay $100 million in damages and set-up a legitimate business based on its technology.
