The family of Bob Marley have indicated they will sue the Universal Music Group and telecommunications giant Verizon after the companies announced a deal to sell Marley ringtones.
The deal was announced on Tuesday, and coincides with the 30th anniversary of the reggae legend's 'Exodus' album. But the Marley Family-owned Fifty Six Hope Road Music claims "the agreement was entered into without the permission of the Marley Family." They went on to argue that the deal was "not in accordance with Marley's longstanding contract with Universal Music Group."
UMG dismissed the suit as "meritless", claiming they "are offering Bob Marley ringtones through Verizon in accordance with the terms of a long standing contract between Bob Marley and UMG."
