Dour vegetarian Morrissey has nixed a purported $75 million offer to reunite The Smiths.
Pitchfork reports that Morrissey had been offered $75 million to get the band back together for fifty shows around the world, as long as Johnny Marr was in the band (although the deal didn't specify whether bassist Andy Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce were necessary).Morrissey had previously scoffed at a 2006 offer of $5 million to reunite the classic cult act for Coachella, saying "money doesn't come into it." He told Rolling Stone writer David Fricke, ""It was a fantastic journey. And then it ended. I didn't feel we should have ended. I wanted to continue. [Marr] wanted to end it. And that was that."
His latest press release announcing solo tour dates also said, "In an effort to stop the speculation and kill off the rumour mongers who seem to use these things to take advantage of committed fans, we can tell you that one thing the future will not bring is a Smiths' reunion tour."
Doesn't look like Morrissey needs one. He has a 29-date North American tour planned from September to November, including ten consecutive dates at LA's Palladium and five at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom.
