Indie rockers and rappers help launch the US Major League Soccer campaign with new team anthems.
Adidas is hosting a song for the thirteen teams in the revamped US soccer league, each written and performed by an act representing their hometown. Some new songs, some revamped versions of old tracks, it's a concerted effort to add cool to a sport previously ignored in North America.Texan rapper Mike Jones supplied 'Houston Dynamo (Don't Play)', power rockers Rose Hill Drive give Colorado Rapids 'Goal!', LA's Chivas United get Akwid's latin-themed 'Chivas Explosivas!' and The Rapture have reworked 'Whoo! Alright, Yeah... Uh Huh' for the New York Red Bulls.
Symphonic rock collective The Polyphonic Spree give FC Dallas the bouncy 'H-O-O-P-S Yes!', David Beckham's LA Galaxy get the electro-clash 'We Are The Galaxy' from Kinky, and power pop goofballs OK Go offer Chicago Fire their song 'Here Comes The Fire'.
Hip hop producer RJD2 wrote a real soccer chant for Columbus Crew, Barenaked Ladies supply an equally anthemic stomp for Toronto FC and hardcore punk legends Bad Brains grind out a tune for DC United.
Other artists include Damone for New England Revolution, Blackpool Lights for Kansas City Wizards and Meg & Dia for Real Salt Lake. All songs are downloadable from the Adidas MLS website.
