Diplomatic tensions between North Korea and the United States could be on the mend, with the New York Philharmonic considering an official performance invitation from Pyongyang.
North Korea, a founding member of George Bush's 'axis of evil', have been at odds of late with pretty much the entire planet over their nuclear ambitions. The communist state agreed to a disarmament deal in February, and this latest musical gesture could be a sign that Kim Jong-Il is beginning to favour a more pragmatic approach to his relationship with the west."We have just very recently received an inquiry about the possibility of the New York Philharmonic performing in Pyongyang," said orchestra spokesman Eric Latzky.
He continued, "It came from an independent representative as an official invitation of the Ministry of Culture. We appreciate any invitation to the New York Philharmonic and will explore the possibility of this as we would any other invitation."
