Opera maestro Luciano Pavarotti was admitted to the cancer ward in a hospital in his home town of Modena, the Italian media has reported.
Hospital staff confirmed on Thursday that the tenor had been admitted after suffering a high fever, though they refused to confirm reports that he's been struck down with pneumonia. He was diagnosed last year with pancreatic cancer, and had the tumour removed in July 2006. He hasn't been seen in public since the operation.Pavarotti's wife, Nicoletta Mantovani, visited her husband, but didn't answer any questions from reporters. The hospital said he would likely be discharged in the next few days.
Last month, Mantovani said he was responding well to a fifth cycle of radiation treatment, and that he was "fighting like a lion" in his battle against the disease.
