Music entrepreneur Glenn Wheatley will spend at least the next 15 months in prison after being found guilty on tax fraud charges in Melbourne today.
The Australian businessman was sentence to 30 months, with a minimum term of 15 months.Wheatley, the former bass player for 60s rock act Masters Apprentices, was the man who introduced Little River Band into the United States and then went on to manage John Farnham and Delta Goodrem.
Wheatley's sentence is viewed as harsh considering that he co-operated with the tax office during the investigation and had pleaded guilty.
The tax office caught the music identity during its Operation Wickenby crack-down. A well known movie star and famous sports star are both thought to be next in line for investigation. Both live outside Australia.
Wheatley was guilty of not paying tax on the revenues earned from the John Farnham Talk Of The Town tour as well as Kostya Tszyu's boxing match against Jesse James Leija in 2003.
Talking to Undercover before the sentence, Glenn honestly admitted to being guilty of taking bad advise. It is unknown if his former accountant is to also face charges. Prior to going to court, he had paid back all over the $318,092 in taxes.
In court last month he said "I'm ashamed of what I've done".
