Boy George has been sentenced to 15 months of Her Majesty’s pleasure, or maybe that is some guy called Bubba’s pleasure.
George O’Dowd (aka Boy George) will spend the next 15 months behind bars after being found guilty of imprisoning a male escort.The surprisingly harsh sentence came as a surprise to everyone. While Judge David Radford had warned after he was found guilty in December that he was facing jail, it was taken to mean a token few months or suspended sentence.
In handing down the sentence, Judge Radford justified the term by saying, "This offence is so serious that only an immediate sentence of imprisonment can be justified for it.”
George looked dumbfounded as the sentence was passed.
The incident happened in January 2007 when George imprisoned Audun Carlsen in his London flat after a naked photo shoot and cocaine party.
Carlsen testified that he was handcuffed and beaten while George was under the influence of the drug.
The sentencing will also mean a severe restriction of George’s career once he is released from prison. It is unlikely that now with a prison sentence that he will be allowed to perform in the United States again.
With good behavior, George could be out in 6 months. An appeal at this stage has not been launched.
