West Aussie prog rock machine Karnivool announce two years in the charts and an unlikely collaboration.
It's been a fairytale start for independent act Karnivool, whose thoughtful and hugely melodic progressive hard-rock hit an untapped seam of fans across the nation. The band were packing out venues without airplay or mainstream attention and their hard slog has paid off with debut album 'Themata' now having spent 104 weeks in the independent charts. The only other recent independent album with such longevity has been John Butler Trio's 'Sunrise Over Sea'.Now Karnivool will contribute to the remix album for the electronic side project of The Basics' Wally De Backer, Gotye. Gotye was last year's independent surprise packet and his cult hit 'Like Drawing Blood' has spawned a remix album 'Mixed Blood', released on July 15. Gotye said Karnivool rekindled his love for heavier music and asked them to reinterpret a song, the band choosing to tackle 'The Only Way'.
Also, vocalist Ian Kenny's side project Birds Of Tokyo have sold out their first acoustic session at Fremantle's Fly By Night on August 5 and have added another show on August 6. Tickets are on sale now.
