George Michael, who played the first concert at the new Wembley Stadium in London was fined a staggering £130,000 for his encore.
Michael performed for thirteen minutes beyond the agreed time during his encore on June 9 this year.It is common for promoters or artists to be fined for playing overtime, but Wembley's fine is a staggering £10,000 per minute and with Michael's 13 minutes overtime, it cost him more than 1/3 of the average cost of housing in London.
The performance was the first show at the stadium since the old (and decrepit) stadium had been torn down.
Muse followed soon after with two shows at the stadium. Muse drummer Dom Howard said of Michael's gigs after he sniped the coveted "first" gig off them; "George Michael doing Wembley is a joke. Who cares? Our show is going to be massive, it's the pinnacle."
