Producer extraordinaire Steve Albini, an avid poker player, has offered a slice of his musical wisdom on a poker forum, of all places.
Albini revealed himself after another user began to brag about having sold something on eBay to a 'Steve Albini' from Chicago which escalated into an Ask Steve Albini thread. The producer answered questions put to him by members of the twoplustwo.com forum, which ranged from simple questions like what he thinks of Wolfmother ("They're okay, but I'd rather listen to Dead Meadow") to technical studio questions ("If a record needs aggressive mastering to "save" it, then aggressive mastering isn't enough to save it. Given a choice between sound quality and apparent loudness, I will side with sound quality every time.") to how many musicians has he "nailed" ("About a dozen").
Albini has a history of answering questions on websites, including his own studio's website www.electrical.com.
He even invites one fan to pick up the phone and ask for him if he wants to come down and have a look at the studio.
Albini has worked with countless legendary rock bands including The Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Jesus Lizard, Nirvana and more. He is famed for having a "lo-fi" sound, favouring analogue technology. He has also played in Black Flag, Shellac and Rapeman.
